Name: Justin "JT" Podell

Undergraduate degree and school: Athletic Training and Exercise Science, Manchester College. Masters in Sports Medicine, University of Virginia.
What his professors are saying about him: "JT’s leadership ability has been observed by faculty and fellow students as evidenced by his recent election as President of the 2015 cohort. His enthusiasm for the profession and the LC DPT program is contagious; we look forward to his leadership in our program!" - A. Russell Smith, Jr., PT, Ed.D, Program Director
What sparked your interest in physical therapy? Being able to help others return back to play, work, and what they love to do has always been a passion of mine since high school. I love the interactions with patients and athletes, getting to know them as people rather than injuries or impairments. With every patient being different there is something new to experience each and every day, keeping me on my toes wanting to learn more.
What's the most exciting part of the DPT program? There are three things to me that are the most exciting about the LC DPT program. First is the top-of-the-line facilities that we are able to use each and every day. Second is how easily approachable the faculty are to answer any of our questions. Third are the relationships that I have built with other students in the LC DPT program; they are always there for one another.
What do you hope to do with your degree? Work with a professional sports team (hopefully the Chicago Cubs) or academia.
What are some of your hobbies? Anything outdoors: going on hikes, playing ultimate Frisbee, baseball, and playing catch with my Dad.
What is your favorite quote? "Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did." - Newt Gingrich
Anything else that you’d like to share (i.e. something unique)? I was in 4-H for as long as I can remember, and have always been fascinated with Entomology.
