July 2012: Brandon Whittington
Medical Facilities of America is dedicated to our students' success and wants to highlight students for their efforts! MFA has selected Brandon Whittington as the Student of the Month for July.
Name: Brandon Whittington
Hometown: Virginia Beach, Va.
Undergraduate school: Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va.
What his professor says: "Brandon is a shining example of the type of student we have at Lynchburg College. He is excited about the profession, he loves to learn, he helps his classmates and he is willing to search for answers. Brandon has demonstrated solid academic performance during a pressure-packed semester and still takes the time to be kind to others around him. Not only is he a great example of the type of therapist we produce here at Lynchburg College, he is the type of person that exemplifies the school mission and goes above and beyond." - Stephen W. Elam, PT, DPT, CLT, Assistant Professor, Doctor of Physical Therapy
What sparked your interest in physical therapy? While in my undergraduate program I had a friend that suffered a traumatic brain injury. I was highly impressed by the pivotal role that physical therapy played in his recovery. Seeing the therapists work with him and his progress has inspired me.
What's the most exciting part of the DPT program? I get most excited when I'm studying and puzzle pieces form together. I enjoy building the bigger picture of how different components work together in the body.
What do you hope to do with your degree? It's hard to say exactly. I think everyone in the program is here to help people, but specifically how I will develop in this program and what I will gravitate to is still up in the air. Currently my biggest interest is neurological and vestibular rehab.
What are some of your hobbies? I'd say technology, skateboarding, soccer and automotive performance would be at the top of the list.
What is your favorite quote? "Imagination is more important than knowledge." - Albert Einstein
