LC Theatre Dance Works
The LC Dance Works ensemble holds open auditions every semester and is made up of students who wish to learn and improve their technique in tap, jazz, musical theatre, modern, or ballet. Approximately twenty members are chosen each semester. Theatre majors are continually part of the ensemble.
Dance Works rehearses in the dance studio in Turner Gymnasium twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m., with additional rehearsals closer to performance showcases. This time frame allows students flexibility to participate in other activities such as evening theatre production rehearsals and music ensembles. The styles of the dance pieces are determined by the ability of the student, the reinforcement of work being done elsewhere in the Theatre Program, and the expertise of the director of dance.
Upper level student choreographers may propose dances for rehearsal and performance. The director of dance will interview and choose the student choreographers. Student choreographers are chosen by the quality, vision, and practicality of their proposals. The student choreographers and director of dance will work together to determine the participants in each student dance.
In conjunction with the Theatre Program and its staff, the Dance Works ensemble provides the College and greater community with opportunities to experience and appreciate live dance and musical theatre performance. Look for audition announcements through campus-wide e-mails at the beginning of each semester.
