Cross country standout Ricky Flynn (Lynchburg, VA/Damascus) and head coach Dr. Jack Toms were honored Tuesday evening by the City of Lynchburg at a council meeting in City Hall.
After cruising to victories in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), NCAA South/Southeast Region Championship, and the NCAA National Championship meets, Ricky Flynn (Lynchburg, VA/Damascus) was recently tabbed as the USTFCCCA National and Regional Athlete of the Year.
Lynchburg College men’s cross country runner Ricky Flynn (Lynchburg, VA/Damascus) blew past the competition at the NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country National Championship meet to become Lynchburg’s first-ever cross country national champion.
The Lynchburg College men’s cross country team finished second at the South/Southeast Regional meet held in Greensboro, NC. With the runner up placement, LC qualified as a team for competition at the NCAA Championship meet next week. Ricky Flynn (Lynchburg, VA/Damascus) outpaced the field by 16 seconds to win the meet.
The Lynchburg College men’s cross country team won its second consecutive Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title and the 14th overall. Senior Ricky Flynn (Lynchburg, VA/Damascus) won his third consecutive individual title to further cement himself as one of the great runners in Lynchburg and ODAC history.
Ricky Flynn (Lynchburg, VA/Damascus) placed third in the Gold Meet of the Blue Ridge Open which boasted a field of 16 NCAA Division I teams and two NCAA Division II Teams. Additionally, Ryan Van Alstine (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) also ran against mostly Division I competition to win the Blue Ridge Open and pace the Hornet men’s cross country team to a first-place finish.
Senior Ricky Flynn (Lynchburg, VA/Damascus) made his 2009 cross country season debut in epic fashion as he won the Brown division of the fabled Paul Short Invitational by five seconds. The team finished eighth, had three runners finish in the top 100, and all seven participants set 2009 season-best times.
The men’s cross country team took third place at the Maroon Invitational on the campus of Roanoke College as the race was plagued by rain throughout the duration.
The Lynchburg College men’s cross country team finished sixth at the Dickinson College Long Short Invitational. The invite featured two races – the 4K and 8K – and combined scores in the two races determined the overall winner.
