Wading In

LC students will form a bucket brigade to start dredging College Lake, one of many events during "Wading In - Water for Life," a weeklong celebration of one of the world's most precious and endangered resources.

The primary purpose is to raise awareness about water and raise $5,000 for water projects in Uganda and Haiti in a collaboration between Lynchburg College and Sports Outreach. More than 1 billion people lack safe drinking water; a child dies every 15 seconds from lack of clean water.

"Wading In" features sporting events, a children's carnival, and musical performances to attract a variety of participants.

Tuesday, April 20 - The Depot Grille, located at 10 Ninth Street, will contribute a portion of their profits from lunch and dinner toward water projects in Uganda and Haiti, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Thursday, April 22- Earth Day will bring Pulitzer Center journalists William Wheeler and Anna-Katarina Gravgaard to Lynchburg College to speak to classes and provide a public talk on "International Water Issues" at 4 p.m. in Hopwood Auditorium. Funding made possible by a grant through Princeton University.

Friday, April 23- Lynchburg College Women's Soccer will take on Liberty University and Virginia Military Institute in a round-robin at 6:30 p.m. on Shellenberger Field. At half-time of the first game, about 7 p.m., at least three students will have their heads shaved to benefit St. Baldrick's Foundation, which funds cancer research.

1:30 to 4 p.m. -- Lynchburg College Women's Lacrosse ODAC quarterfinal (tentative)

4 p.m. -- VES vs. E.C. Glass High School Lacrosse Game

7 p.m. -- Lynchburg College Men's Lacrosse vs. Washington & Lee University

Beaver Point and College Lake

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. -- Wading In - Hand-dredging College Lake with a 1,000-bucket brigade

1 to 9 p.m. -- Educational information booths, water wellness; documentary - Flow, the World Water Crisis

1 to 7 p.m. -- Jammin' Jamboree - bands from around the state play throughout the day

1:30 to 2:30 p.m. -- Our City Sleeps

3 to 4 p.m. -- Nataraja Drummers

4:15- to 5:15 p.m. -- Lynchburg Christian Fellowship

5:30 to 7 p.m. -- Safety Word Orange

9 p.m. -- No Greater Sky Rock Concert

The Dell

1 to 4 p.m. -- Big Brothers/Big Sisters Day in the Dell Kids' Carnival with games, food

Vendors for the day will by Domino's Pizza, Roly Poly, and Chik-Fil-A.
