The Vase Project: Made in China – Landscape in Blue

Qing Hua (blue and white vases) from Jingdezhen, China that explore contemporary industrial-landscape imagery in the context of the traditional idealized landscape. The exhibition, curated by Barbara Diduk of Dickinson College and coordinated by the Lafayette Art Galleries, also raises questions about the nature of replication, interpretation, and originality.

Chinese Artifacts from the Collection

Carved jade, ivory, and coral depicting figures and animals from Chinese mythology. Curated by Kristin Harris, adjunct instructor of art.

The Look of Mortality: Leonard Baskin’s Prints from Moby-Dick

Baskin’s series of lithographs from 1970 depicting Herman Melville’s literary masterpiece, Moby-Dick; or, The Whale, first published in 1851, the tale of wandering sailor Ishmael and his voyage on the whaling ship, Pequod, commanded by Captain Ahab. Curated by Dr. Richard C. Burke, Professor of English, John Franklin East Distinguished Professor of Humanities.

Pierre Daura: Inspired by Religion

Paintings and sculpture of the Holy Family, saints, and other figures in Christian art from the collection of the Daura Gallery, inspired by the medieval Catalan art of Daura’s homeland. This exhibit through March 7.
