Coach of the Year

Monday January 4 2010

LC coach Chris Yeager earned his second All-State College Division Men's Soccer Coach of the Year Award from the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Three Hornets also earned First-Team All-State honors and two others earned a spot on the Second-Team, giving Lynchburg the most selections of any school in the state.

Yeager guided the Hornets to arguably its best season ever, winning a school-record 17 games, an ODAC record 12th ODAC Championship, and recording the team's first-ever NCAA Tournament win. Yeager earned the ODAC Coach fo the Year award for the third time this fall and was also the State Coach of the Year in 2006.

Seniors Pat Brown (Williamsburg, VA/Christchurch) and Josh Reed (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) along with junior Hunter Smith (Goode, VA/Jefferson Forest) earned First-Team All-State honors. Brown ends his storied career as a four-time All-State and All-ODAC selection and a three-time All-Region honoree, and was named an All-American this season. Reed repeated on the First-Team this year and was a First-Team All-ODAC and Third-Team All-Region performer in 2009. Smith proved to be the top defender on the Hornets and was also tabbed to the Second-Team All-Region and First-Team All-ODAC squads.

Donald Hart III (Springfield, VA/Paul VI) and Zach Ward (Haymarket, VA/Battlefield) rounded out the All-State squad for Lynchburg with second-team accolades. Hart led Lynchburg in scoring and goals en route to being named Second-Team All-ODAC. Ward was a stout defender all year and was also picked as an All-ODAC second teamer.
