Choral Union to perform

Choral UnionThe Lynchburg College Choral Union and Concert Choir will present a joint concert on October 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Snidow Chapel to benefit the Lynchburg Branch of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Admission to the performance will be a donation of cash or non-perishable food items.

Both choirs are under the direction of Dr. Jong Kim, professor of music and program director of the M.A. in music program. The concert program will include “Lobet den Herrn, alle Heiden (Psalm 117) by Johann Sebastian Bach; “Alleluia by Randall Thompson; and “Song of Triumph” by Dale Grotenhuis. Rose Peak will accompany both choral groups.

The Concert Choir has also been invited to perform at the District VII Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Assembly on Sunday, October 21, at 4:30 p.m. at Seventh Street Christian Church in Richmond.

The program will consist of sacred music selections ranging from the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries with works by Tomas Luis de Victoria and Johann Michael Haydn to 20th century music by Ola Gjeilo of Norway, Jan Sandström of Sweden, Ernai Aguiar of Brazil, and American composers Daniel E. Gawthrop, Moses Hogan, Josephine Poelinitz, Andrew Fischer, and Kinley Lange.

Soloists will be Tevin Ware, tenor, and Derrick Thompson, baritone, a 2008 graduate of LC and instructor of music at the College.

The 28-voice Concert Choir is comprised of student singers who are music and non-music majors at Lynchburg College, and membership is by audition only. Singers hail from Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New York, North Carolina, South Korea, Indonesia, and China.
