Betty Cooper McKinney
Director of Advertising
A native of Lynchburg, Betty is a graduate of Lynchburg College with a BA degree in English and music. A former newspaper reporter, she was vice president and Western Region marketing director of a Virginia bank before joining the College Communications and Marketing Office at her alma mater.
Betty and fellow alumna Carolyn Eubank are co-authors of Lynchburg College: More Than Books and Bricks, a coffee table-style book published in 2006.
A choral music conductor, Betty has served as music director at several area churches. She is married to Jim McKinney, also an LC graduate, and they have a daughter and granddaughter.
A native of Altavista, Virginia, Katharine graduated summa cum laude from Radford University in 1999 with a B.F.A. with a concentration in graphic design. At 22, she was awarded Best in Show from the Roanoke Valley Advertising Federation for her design of the Macbeth theatre poster, done while she was a student worker in Radford's Creative Services office. Since joining the LC staff in 2000, Katharine has earned 20 CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education) and ADDY (American Advertising Federation) awards for her design work.
Katharine's design passions include typography, the work of Saul Bass, anything letterpress or silkscreened, and the challenge of a 2-color job.
Chris joined the College Communications and Marketing staff in July 2006 as a graphic designer. Born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Chris graduated with a B.F.A. from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and worked as a designer at William Longhauser Design and Allemann Almquist & Jones, both in Philadelphia.
In recent years, Chris and his wife settled in Central Virginia, where Chris worked as a freelance designer until joining the Lynchburg College staff.
