The Lynchburg College women's basketball team fell behind early and never could catch the Lady Captains of Christopher Newport University as LC fell 63-49 in the season opener for both teams Wednesday evening in non-conference play.

With the runner up placement, LC qualified as a team for competition at the NCAA Championship meet next week. Ricky Flynn (Lynchburg, VA/Damascus) outpaced the field by 16 seconds to win the meet.

Jennie Pernisi (Camden, NY/Altmar-Parish Williamstown), Ashley Meyer (Springfield, MO/Glendale), and Molly Galloway (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) qualified for the NCAA National Championship meet by finishing in the top-35 and earning All-Region honors
