What is an Argonaut?
In Greek mythology, there is an account of the Argonauts. The tale goes back to the legendary adventures of Jason and those who became his shipmates as he searched for the Golden Fleece.
These strong-willed people were known as the Argonauts after the ship on which they were due to set sail in search of their prize. These people were willing to risk their lives in heated battle with a dragon who kept the fleece hidden.
The Argonaut is a remembrance and a metaphor for the Lynchburg College community. Since 1903, we, the students, faculty, and staff, have strived to be the bravest people we can be in hopes that we can slay our own distressing dragon and return with our highest prizes. Friends, memories, intelligence...all parts of the treasure trove that we are all sailing to discover.
