Westover Alumni Society Weekend for classes through 1972

This is a sample schedule of events that were held in 2013. Event details and locations are likely to change during Westover Alumni Society Weekend 2014. A draft schedule will be posted as it is available.

Friday, April 26, 2013

10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Registration and Check-in

Alumni House Lounge (check-in also available Saturday 9 a.m. – noon). Final schedule and campus maps on display; 50th Reunion scrapbooks on sale ($10 each). Light refreshments provided.

11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Class of 1953 60th Reunion Lunch

Burton Student Center, VIP Room. Followed by the class reunion photo. Class members will reminisce and reconnect, sharing famous LC memories or proudest accomplishments after graduation. Classmates who have passed will be remembered and recognized. Class of ’53: bring memorabilia/mementos to share! (Class members eat compliments of the College; $15 per guest)

1 p.m. Music Minor Senior Recital (Elizabeth Marny, piano) and Music Education Senior Recital (Christopher Badgett, clarinet)

Sydnor Performance Hall, Elliot and Rosel Schewel Hall; no tickets required.

2:30 - 4 p.m. Lynchburg and the Civil War

Drs. Clifton '62 and Dorothy Bundy Potter '64 discuss Lynchburg's role in the Civil War. East Room, Burton Student Center.

4 p.m. Music Minor Senior Recital (Caitlin Beym, violin) and Music Education Senior Recital (Nicole Balsamello, viola)

Sydnor Performance Hall, Elliot and Rosel Schewel Hall; no tickets required.

5 - 6 p.m. Westover Alumni Society Board Meeting

Schewel Hall, Room 231

6 - 7:30 p.m. Westover Alumni Society Welcome Home Reception

Memorial Ballroom, Hall Campus Center. Hosted by Sherwood Zimmerman ’64, Westover Alumni Society president, with special guests President Kenneth Garren and Mrs. Sheila Garren. All alumni invited, casual attire. Appetizers and cash bar ($12.50 per person).

7:30 p.m. Wind Symphony and Orchestra Spring Concert

Sydnor Performance Hall, Elliot and Rosel Schewel Hall. Reserved seating; tickets required. Call 434.544.8344.

7:30 p.m. DanceWorks Spring Dance Concert

Staff and student choreographed pieces performed in a variety of dance styles. Dillard Theatre, no tickets necessary.

8 a.m. - noon Registration and Check-in

10 - 11 a.m. LC Town Hall Meeting

Join us for an opportunity to learn more about current LC headlines and current trends in education. Schewel Hall, Room 231.

10 - 11 a.m. Class Reunion 2014 workshop for the classes of 1954, '59, '64, and '69.

Begin planning for your 2014 class reunions at Westover Alumni Society Weekend 2014 (April 25-27, 2014), Burton Room, Burton Student Center.

11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Class of 1958 (55th), 1963 (50th), and 1968 (45th) Reunion Luncheons

Memorial Ballroom, Hall Campus Center; $15 per person. Classes of '58, '63, '68 and their guests are invited. Open to all alumni. Special "LC through the years" presentation by Julius Sigler '62, vice president and dean for Academic Affairs. Class photos for '58 and '68 reunion classes taken.

1:30 - 3 p.m. Reminisce and Reconnect (Classes of 1958, '63, '68)

Recall the "good ole days" while reconnecting with classmates.

  • Class of 1958: Schewel Hall, Room 231
  • Class of 1963: East Room, Burton Student Center (class photo will be taken; 50th reunion medallions will be presented to class members who are present)
  • Class of 1968: Westover Room, Burton Student Center

3 - 5 p.m. Open House at the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Building

An opportunity to learn about new programs offered at LC and how technology influences the classroom experience. Vans will depart from the Alumni House at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. A special greeting will be held by the program Director, Rusty Smith, at 4 p.m. in the DPT Atrium.

5 - 5:30 p.m. Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Student Center expansion project

6 - 8 p.m. Westover Alumni Society Dinner

Memorial Ballroom, Hall Campus Center. Class Reunion recognitions, Class Gift presentations, and recognition of Alumni Award recipients. Hosted by Sherwood Zimmerman ’64 and special guests, President Kenneth Garren and Mrs. Sheila Garren. Coat and tie, cash bar. Registration required; $25 per person.

7:30 p.m. LC Concert Choir Spring Concert

Location: Snidow Chapel. Concert of choral and vocal chamber musical selections by the Lynchburg College Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Jong H. Kim, professor of music. Free; no tickets required.

7:30 p.m. Danceworks Spring Dance Concert

Staff and student choreographed pieces performed in a variety of dance styles. Dillard Theatre, no tickets required.

8:30 - 10:30 a.m. Westover Alumni Society Breakfast

East Room, Burton Student Center. Hosted by Sherwood Zimmerman '64. $10 per person.

10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Worship Service

Snidow Chapel. Led by Rev. Stephanie McLemore, College chaplain and director of church relations. Guest speaker: John Parker '14.

2 p.m. DanceWorks Spring Dance Concert

4:30 p.m. Roman Catholic Mass

Location: Snidow Chapel.

*Every event is open to all Westover Alumni Society members and guests.

Alumni House Lounge. This model of the College's founding building was constructed by Dr. Edmund "Rick" Potter, son of Dr. Clifton Potter Jr. '62 and Dr. Dorothy Bundy Turner Potter '64. 

Journey Through the Years

On permanent display in the dining room, Burton Student Center. 1903-2003 historical exhibit from the College Archives collection. Display case and exhibit designed by John C. Crank Jr. '79, founder and president of 1717 Design Group, Richmond, Virginia. Gift of the class of 1993.
