Meet Ira Marshall '00

At LC, Ira majored in finance and minored in education. After LC, he obtained an MS in Management Information Systems from Bowie State University in Maryland.
In his career, he has navigated through the finance industry in central and northern Virginia. With tours in insurance and real estate management fields, Ira reached his current destination as a commissioned bank examiner with the Farm Credit Administration.
A Passion for Farms and Finance
His decision to pair farming with finance in his career stemmed from the challenges his grandmother Doxie faced as an African-American farmer in southern Virginia.
His current work as a bank examiner with the national Farm Credit Administration helps to ensure rural areas and farms receive the credit and assistance they need to survive and flourish.
Ministering to the Community
In 2008, he received his Minister's license from Mount Calvary Holy Church in Washington, DC.
His love for people led him to answer the divine call to serve them through several ministries. Ira assists on the Educational and Leadership Development Ministry Team, which helps to develop curriculum materials for clergy, leads empowerment series, facilitates spiritual educational discussions, and hosts workshops on collaborative leadership in the church.
His congregation boasts a membership of 7,500 under the leadership of Bishop Alfred A. Owens, Jr. His future career aspirations include teaching and helping individuals to enhance their leadership skills.
"LC gives you space to become a leader"
Ira credits LC as having taught him how to develop leadership skills. He remembers one-on-one time with great instructors as helping him to grow.
When asked for advice for current students, Ira remarked, "Put God first. Obstacles will come, but don't lose sight. Never give up on your goals."
