Psychology major, Spanish minor
From Williamsburg, Virginia

I went to a community college for a semester after starting off at a larger public college. A family friend recommended Lynchburg. I wasn’t sure what to expect from LC, but when I arrived on campus, I loved it.

At the Transfer Scholarship Competition, I met Dr. Sumutka who became my advisor for Psychology. She encouraged me to be active with opportunities in the Psychology department. It was great advice! I am now the secretary for our chapter of national honors in Psychology.

LC students are diverse and from many different backgrounds, but we all support each other in the goal to complete our educations and develop as scholars. The professors at LC choose to teach here because they can have a personal connection with the students so as to help guide them individually.

Elementary Education major
From Charlottesville, Virginia

I saw a poster for Lynchburg College during a visit to the counseling office at my community college. I checked out the website and planned a visit. It was a very positive experience from the moment I set foot on campus. I knew that I wanted to transfer to LC!

I’ve planned to major in Elementary Education since high school and it’s a strong program at LC. I also like that the College is smaller. All of the students and faculty are welcoming. I love being a part of my Hornet family! I got connected to campus life really quickly. It was easy to meet students through my roommates and in classes.

I’m working with local elementary students and next year I’ll spend a semester student teaching. Lynchburg College is an amazing place to be!

Nursing major
From Lynchburg, Virginia

Becoming a nurse has been my goal for a long time. I started my education at the local community college with an associate’s degree in science. My parents and I had heard good things about the nursing program at Lynchburg College. We met with LC’s transfer counselor for more information about admission into the nursing program. After I was admitted the transfer process was easy.

The nursing program is a lot of hard work, but totally worth the effort. My nursing professors were very supportive. They really push you to succeed. The clinical experiences give you great practice in a variety of areas. I loved my time in the local Emergency Room. I now work on a critical care unit. I love my new job. Nursing is my passion, and Lynchburg College prepared me to achieve my goals.
