Following undergraduate nursing education, I worked at Duke University Medical Center for two years and then returned home to Lynchburg,Virginia and worked at Centra Health. My clinical specialty has been in the realm of critical care for the past 26 years. I continue to work in a per diem status in the Surgical/Trauma Intensive Care Unit at Centra Health.

I became interested in teaching about 10 years ago as I began work on a master’s degree. During that time, I worked as a clinical instructor at both Lynchburg College and Liberty University. In 2010, I joined the Lynchburg College Nursing Faculty in a part-time position, where I primarily work with students during their hospital clinical rotations at both the junior- and senior-level. I enjoy sharing over 26 years of practice knowledge with my students.

Personal Information/Interests

I love the ocean and travel to various beaches at least two to three times per year. Hobbies include reading, drawing, cooking, gardening, snorkeling, and listening to all kinds of music – Celtic and Native American Indian spiritual are two of my favorite genres.

Beagles are my favorite breed of dogs. I have recently become a member of Animal Rescue Media Education (ARME) — Beagle Freedom Project, whose mission is to “rescue beagles used in animal experimentation in research laboratories” and “offer them a chance at a life after rescue.”
