Communication Intern – Office of the President

The Office of the President at Lynchburg College is seeking a qualified intern who will complete a variety of communication activities that serve students, faculty, alumni, local businesses, civic leaders, and other key institutional audiences.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following duties:

  • Planning and implementing effective communication strategies for the President
  • Writing professional letters, emails, and campus correspondence
  • Updating and monitoring social media profiles and platforms
  • Creating and enhancing Prezi and Powerpoint presentations
  • Editing existing newsletter articles, announcements, and similar documents
  • Assisting in the completion of long-term projects and routine office tasks


Candidates should be of junior or senior status and meet the following criteria:

  • Exhibit a professional attitude and demeanor
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understand a variety of communication research methods
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Prezi, Powerpoint, Microsoft Word, and Outlook
  • Commit 10-15 hours per week to the internship responsibilities

Women’s Basketball Student Assistant

Responsibilities and expectations of the LC Women’s Basketball Student Assistant:

  • Represent the program and oversee the fluidity of all athletic events by the women’s basketball team, such as practice, games, and tournaments
  • Learn and operate the game clock for practice
  • Learn and operate video camera for home games
  • Run the program’s efficiency calculation during practices
  • Calculate efficiency post games
  • Work closely with coaching staff

Depending on the specific intern, there may be specialized tasks as well to improve and focus on specific skill sets.

LC Sports Information

The internship will be catered to best suit the applicant’s skills and interest in the field, while also receiving knowledge and background with many different aspects of the profession.

Tasks might include:

  • Writing stories and biographical updates
  • Filming select home games and video editing
  • Photography
  • Website maintenance
  • Public address announcing
  • Assisting with our webcasting program
  • Working with the statistical crew at home games

Lynchburg College Mens’ Lacrosse Program

Internship for Communication Studies Major

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Video log of lacrosse program
  • Advertisement of lacrosse games
  • Positive promotion of the program, institution, and home games
  • Collaborate with Sports Information Department on lacrosse-related topics
  • Work with game day DJ on promotions, advertisements, and announcements during games
  • Assist in facets of game day set-up
  • Create and edit an end-of-the-year-highlight film
  • Complete any other reasonable duties assigned by the coaching staff

Summary of Essential Functions/Skill

  • The creation and placement of posters and flyers advertising home games around campus
  • Keep SID department staff abreast of new lacrosse stories and statistics
  • Edit video log to create an “inside look” video of the lacrosse program to be published on the athletics website
  • Create advertising plans with the core intention of positively promoting the institution, the program, and each lacrosse function
  • Assist in the set-up of film materials and advertisements on game day
  • Organize and set up any half-time promotions on game day
  • Complete all required responsibilities keeping the best interest of the institution and program in mind
  • Be on time for all commitments
  • Be attentive to and complete all of the coaching staff’s reasonable requests
