Experience and Background
During his graduate career at Virginia Tech, Dr. Crumpton focused on the design and synthesis of novel boronic acid modified amino acids. These amino acids were utilized for the construction of non-natural branched peptides as well as peptidic One-Bead One-Compound (OBOC) libraries aimed at exploring novel RNA binding motifs. He also elucidated alternative protocols for the detection of peptide boronic acids via Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry. Additional projects involved alternate methodologies for the on-resin ligation of azido-adamantane compounds to DNA via click chemistry.
Teaching and Research Interests
Dr. Crumpton primarily teaches organic chemistry. He is very interested in exploring alternative electronic education technologies as well as peer-guided learning both in and out of the classroom.
He has always been interested in green chemistry and would be excited to establish collaborations and research projects at LC revolving around this research philosophy.
Dr. Crumpton’s love of the outdoors was solidified during his undergraduate career at Appalachian State University. He began rock climbing during his freshman year, and has never ceased to be inspired by the physical challenge, movement, and beauty of the areas he has visited because of the sport. During the summer months, he enjoys white water kayaking and mountain biking for a welcome respite from the heat.
