The English major offers a breadth of courses in literature and writing, leading to an emphasis in either literature or creative writing.

The English Program offers students the opportunity for publication of creative writing in the Prism and of expository prose in the Agora. All English majors are welcomed into the English Club, and those who meet the academic standards may be inducted into the International Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta.

English majors interested in tutoring in The Alton L. Wilmer Writing Center may apply for a Work Study Grant. The Writing Center provides tutorial assistance to any student desiring help in writing or editing a paper.

Students who are graduated with a major in English with emphasis on writing, analysis and critical thinking are well prepared for careers in law, medicine, publishing, public relations, management, teaching, public service, and numerous other professions.
