  • Snowflex Centre on Liberty Mountain, the first of its kind in the United States, offers year-round skiing, snowboarding, and tubing

Downtown Lynchburg

  • Shops, restaurants, art galleries, theatre, and special events mean something is always happening downtown – check the website for more
  • 8 miles of hiking and biking trails, including portions through downtown, run through the city’s Blackwater Creek Natural Area
  • Community Market, the third oldest market in the U.S., sells fresh produce, foods, flowers, and crafts


  • Historic Sandusky, an important Civil War site near the campus; partners with LC to blend education and historic preservation
  • National D-Day Memorial honors the Allied forces in the invasion of Normandy during World War II
  • Museum of the Confederacy exhibits artifacts, photographs, documents, Confederate uniforms and flags
  • Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest preserves the third president’s private retreat
  • Lynchburg Museum preserves and displays the history and culture of Lynchburg and the surrounding areas
  • Old City Cemetery, the oldest public cemetery in Virginia still in use; a Virginia Historic Landmark on the National Register of Historic Places
  • Legacy Museum preserves African-American history in Lynchburg
  • Point of Honor, an historic 19th century home situated on land where Monacan Indians once camped
