Message from the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences:

We are very pleased that you are interested in our Master of Arts programs at Lynchburg College. Two of these programs are coordinated through the School of Humanities and Social Sciences  in conjunction with the Department of English and the Department of History while the third is offered by our School of Communication and the Arts through the Department of Music.

The focus of the M.A. in English,  developed in 2006, is on providing a rigorous academic program that affords students an opportunity for further professional development to teach English at the secondary or post-secondary level, to seek careers in fields related to English, or to prepare for beginning a Ph.D. program in English. The M.A. in English page provides specific information on the courses and faculty. The M.A. in history provides a 36-hour curriculum focused on the Atlantic world. This program is designed for teachers seeking additional content and for individuals pursuing doctoral studies or careers in related fields. The M.A. in music offers two emphases: choral conducting and instrumental conducting.  These programs provide intensive classroom instruction combined with extensive  supervised practica for music professionals including music teachers, church choir directors, and band directors.  Please see the M.A. in music page for additional information or contact Dr. Jong Kim, the program coordinator for the M.A. in music, at Kim@lynchburg.edu or 434/544-8443.
